Preview: (8/11) NYG @ NE
The New York Giants at the New England Patriots.
Sure, it’s just the preseason, but that doesn’t mean players and fans can’t get their blood up. Rumor has it the Giants can barely get through a practice without breaking into fistfights.
Something to prove
Both of these teams feature players with something to prove. The clock is starting to tick louder with Daniel Jones to prove he’s the franchise QB. And Mac Jones showed enough last year for Patriots fans to pin their hopes and dreams on him. But can he do it this year without offensive guru Josh McDaniels pulling the strings?
Position battles
New England Patriots
With James White retiring, the 3rd down pass-catch RB role is even less clear. Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson provide the 1-2 punch on running downs, so look for J.J. Taylor, Ty Montgomery, or rookie Pierre Strong to step up on passing downs.
New York Giants
With the loss of Evan Engram, Kyle Rudolph in the offseason, the Giants have holes at TE. The team signed veterans Ricky Seals-Jones and Jordan Akins in free agency, but will either be the reliable emergency dump off option that a QB like Daniel Jones needs? Austin Allen, Jeremiah Hall, Andre Miller are three undrafted rookie TE names to watch, though Miller just broke his forearm.
