Tycho: “DX Odyssey”
Dope bass line running through this song. Is that a real bass, or a synth reproduction? It’s hard to draw the boundary between the real and irreal in Tycho’s “DX Odyssey.” The keys sound like a saxophone. The bass sounds like a lazer. The drums sound like the backing track to a Richard D. James daydream. Are we on a journey back to or away from the island of Ithaca? Do we miss our wife, our son, our father? Maybe there’s some melancholy in the mix, but the emotional mood won’t open its mouth to accept the thermometer. Am I sad, angry, happy, confident, tired, achy, sublime, or obtuse? Scott Hansen plays it close to the vest. Off Infinite Health.
