Soft Fangs: “Factory Floor”
New York’s Soft Fangs is the moniker of songsmith John Lutkevich. His sound is a kind of briny, gazey folk. Our highlighted track delivers tender moments of lo-fi bedroom pop exaltation, but pulls the rug out from under your expectations by coming in with the big finish. The lyrics are relatively brief and definitely to the point, describing the dark dream of wage slave days and TV nights.
Worth quoting in full:
“Tears fall, on the factory floor.
But the boss tells us to clean it up.
Then he walked out the door he came in.
And I hoped I'd never see him again.
I take a pill that says TV, it keeps me smiling. As far as anybody can see.
Turning wax into gold, on a schedule.
Sleeping underneath machinery.
So I walked out the door I came in.
And I said, "I'll never see you again."
