Ordinary Elephant: “Pigeons”
A song about breadcrumb eaters. Pigeons as a metaphor. For musicians? Artists in general? Or any human being at all who needs to strut their stuff for a little nourishment from the hands of generous strangers.
But these strangers have demands, and who can possibly conceive of all the quiet ways in which benefactors benefit from the gifts they give?
The folk guitar and banjo duet from Ordinary Elephant is not overly sentimental: “We can be someone’s prayer / We can be a permanent scar / We can be the dust that grants the wish / Inside a falling star.” A little good, a little bad, a little weird. A beautiful country mooner.
