A stoppy, starty punk bop that’s sneaky danceable. Danceable like doing the Watusi, or the Funky Chicken, or the Lindy Hop. Maybe Nurse Joy creates its own dance with our highlighted track “nu-wave.” Shades of Steely Dan meets James Chance in the free jazz bridge. You’re never quite sure that this song is going to arrive at its third act, which brings a kind of thrill of anticipation. Ultimately, the song never escapes the free jazz bridge. Just fine by me. Off the eponymous EP nu-wave.
