Nighttime: “Cali-for-ni-a”
Nico gone folk. That’s why descriptors like ‘avant-Americana’ feels apt. Nighttime’s last album Keeper Is The Heart was a gorgeous mosaic of medieval motifs and a sonorous vocal sensibility updated for the 21st century wyrd folk crowd. You can still hear those vocals on the new record Lone Star, bouncing around like organ notes in a stone church. Our highlighted track “Cali-for-ni-a” seems like Nighttime’s version of a ‘feel good’ beachfront banger. Songwriter, guitarist, and lead vocalist Eva Louise Goodman is soaking up the sun. Either that or performing the funerary rites for a lost but not forgotten goldfish.
