Nana Benz du Togo: “AGO”

This is kind of great. A slightly improbable mix of acid house and the bright sounds of afro-pop from Nana Benz du Togo. Which has been done before. But usually to the tune of ethnomusicological samples overlaid onto backing grooves that neither need nor benefit from the extra bump.

On our highlighted track “AGO,” on the other hand, the marriage between club beats and folk jams sounds bizarrely inevitable. Is it the heavy hand of producer Peter Solo that makes the marriage work? Maybe too heavy – he wrote all the songs, except “DANSER” and our highlighted track and title track of the album.
