Louise Campbell: “Songbird”
This is art. This is important. But seriously folks, this isn’t the 20th century anymore. Avant garde experimentalism is no longer the province of macho, sexually-confused, whiskey-swilling flaneurs who hate women. As the planet withers into a fiery ball in the 21st century, experimental music is going to be fun, fresh, and ruled by winged animals.
Our highlighted track “Songbird” can be enjoyed straight out of the box, but it helps if you peruse some of the backstory, Louise Campbell’s intent, which has something to do with the St. Lawrence Seaway. Stop rolling your eyes, I command you! This is György Ligeti deconstructed and reconstructed using birdcall building blocks. Don’t knock it til you’ve tried it.
