Kara Jackson: “liquor”
Are we hearing bossa nova vibes? Kara Jackson pens the sweetly sad tune “liquor” on the acoustic guitar closer of the full-length Why Does The Earth Give Us People To Love? At 1:13 the song spins more like an epigram than a full blown composition. Pair it with the opener “recognized” (1:02) or “therapy” (1:17), which for all their brevity, feel like some of the most personal pieces on the album. As if an artist couldn’t bear to bare their soul for too long before segueing back to the ornamented safety of more generic or recondite material. Maybe true with some artists – maybe most – but each Jackson piece feels more exposed and vulnerable than the last.
