June McDoom’s self-titled EP released at the end of 2022 is proof that chillwave nostalgia is a market force. Just how forceful depends on you, dear consumer. McDoom charts out freak folk territory, but it’s the drum machine and washed out production that ties her to the best genre that never was. Intricate and thoughtful songwriting make the revisit worthwhile. Shades of Quilt meets Kate Bush.
