Doug Tuttle: “Draw Blood”
An acoustic strummer with drama from Doug Tuttle. The title of our highlighted track “Draw Blood” suggests as much. And the repeated lyric “Living on your knees” doesn’t provide much in the way of sunshine and rainbows. But when the synthesizer kicks in, a sense of anticipation builds, and you feel like the song’s protagonist is going to turn the page into a different way of living. Who knows? Or maybe our hero just slinks back into a well-worn valley on his couch. Shout out to the sparse but expertly deployed percussion, which lends the track a touch of Western epic.
