Dorothy Ashby: “Jollity”

See this content in the original post

Nimble uptempo pluckwork. It’s Dorothy Ashby on the harp in this vintage recording from 1958, playing our highlighted track “Jollity.” Tranquil enough for grandma, smooth enough for your jazz-loving uncle, and all the retro appeal that young atemporal generations might desire. The flute on top of the strings is the added bonus, making for a shared spotlight between two instruments that don’t get enough foregrounding in contemporary jazz outfits. Unless Andre 3000 is in the mix. Via Craft Recordings.
