Brooklyn’s Maneka stretches itself in a lot of different directions on its latest full-length Dark Matters. Rock, jazz, synthcore, and more. Devin McKnight is the man behind the curtain, writing the songs, the lyrics, and handling most of the vocal duties.

He invites some choice collaborators on the project, including some blissful jazz breakdowns here and there with Chicago’s NNAMDÏ. Our highlighted track “On Her Own” provides some heavier rock textures, backed by a rollercoaster synth. Extra points for the guilty pleasure of a blistering, if brief, guitar solo – the guitar solo is not dead!
