The Jamaica Plain Music Festival is coming!
Also known as the JP Music Fest. That’s got more zing.
It will be the 12th edition, coming your way in September, and each year is organized with tender love and care by a neighborhood community that loves live music and knows how to have a good time. This is a bottom-up affair, by and for the people, and it needs your support.

The local five-piece Burn Kit described themselves as if they were just tipping their toes into the world of music recording and performance with the midweek gig in the back of the Sil.
Could’ve surprised me; the outfit seemed polished enough, with a full setlist to play live, and music to browse online. Not to mention merch.
Psychotropic high intensity emo-flecked rockers from the sound of it. The vocalist was all about “activating” the performance space. Basically, darting all around the room, latching onto any detachable object as a potential prop for the show. Sitting, standing, sleeping, running in place, moonwalking, whatever.
There is some new recorded material en route, either already in the can or scheduled for recording. And some tour dates abroad are on the calendar.
Frogs activated the performance space too. The four punkers stormed the pit during the Burn Kit set, and were a little disappointed that the favor was not completely returned during their own set. Hey, not everyone’s up for an aggro night out and the room wants what it wants. Solid art punk with some hardcore tendencies and stage banter galore.

The four-piece Gossip Collar closed out with a rock n roll set that leaned electro and 90s dancehall. Miles of synthy guitar hooks to vibe to. Extra points to the vocalist for actually wearing a shirt with a collar.
