Couch Sex, Hump Nights
Couch Sex spices up your love life at the Silhouette Lounge on Monday, 28 August 2023.
Alenka, Over Ends, and Keep Ons are thrice as nice, sandwiching the four-stack bill.
Hump Nights! What’s that? We’re not sure…
But it’s definitely a show you need to see, and if you’re feeling a little light in the wallet, put your name in the running to win a free pair of tickets. Save some extra money for merch.
What’s upcoming on the Hump Nights calendar? Check out the monthly Previews.
Thanks to the hearts and minds behind IBOOKTHINGS and Tiny Oak Booking, we’ve got a regular lineup of shows at the Silhouette Lounge and Midway Cafe. Plus a film now and then – thanks, Regent Theatre!
Keep Ons
The four-piece Keep Ons paid tribute to the 4/4 gods with a heavy set of heavy indie rock. Loud like hard rock, but without the cigarettes & booze attitude. It’s the kind of band you could imagine brings a loud sound to the live show, but produces quieter and more delicate takes in the studio. Some bands are like that, Jekyll & Hyde. Do we have any recorded tracks available online to test the theory?
Over Ends
The guitar and drums duo of Over Ends kicked out punk jams. One song kind of sounded like the Ramones’ “We’re A Happy Family”. Was that a cover or homage?
Sometimes two-pieces are just three- or four-pieces with a few band members out sick. Love Shamans, Science Penguins, and Thee Fightin Fish all played the backroom at the Sil recently as ad hoc duos. Hard to get everyone free for every show, what are you going to do?
The Over Ends were a legitimate two-piece. No fooling!
Couch Sex
Local giggers Couch Sex were the highest energy band of the night by a country mile. Shout out to the crowd work, asking the audience to ferry them a cheap whiskey from the bar in honor of their song “Cheap Whiskey”.
For the record Bill the Bartender served them up a glass of Old Thompson, which ABC Fine Wine & Spirits describes as “light-bodied with notes of citrus, dried herbs and minerals.” Doesn’t sound too bad.
The crowd got moving with the music, and needed to, because the guitarist and bassist were swinging their headstocks to the rhythm like battle axes on holiday.
Extra points for gigging with work in the morning.
Alenka
The pop punk four-piece Alenka closed out the night with a hard-charging set of uptempo riffery. Check out their 2022 EP dove.
