Elephant in the Room

Boston’s Grace Givertz plants her flag firmly in the folk country tradition in Year of the Horse

Listen to wistful twang of “Elephant in the Room”

Boston’s Grace Givertz plants her flag firmly in the folk country tradition in her 2019 release Year of the Horse. She trots out the full hillbilly symphony: slide guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, keys, harmonica, and more. Layered over the backwoods brouhaha are smart lyrics delivered in a voice that combines sweet qualities with a brassy undertone.

Givertz covers a lot of ground in her passionate and thoughtful compositions, but she never loses the trail with her nose for classic sounds.

In our featured track “Elephant in the Room” she crafts an ageless country love song, full of twang, heartbreak, and a galloping snare. There’s a wistfulness in the music that never goes out of style, similar to other 21-century country reboots like Georgiana Starlington.
