Clamb: “Four Step Ascension”

See this content in the original post

A prog song that keeps it simple, if you can imagine such a thing. Prog rock has been much maligned for musical nerdery dressed up in ostentatious, obscurantist musical machismo.

Boston’s Clamb eschews the excess and brings back the weird possibilities that were always the promise of progressive rock. Most of all, the band keeps it fun, light, and playful.

On our highlighted track “Four Step Ascension” the skeletal structure is simply an ascending series of four notes, juiced & screwed, that open up a field of free play for the percussion and bass. The band avoids the temptation to fill in the blanks with aimless soloing, so listen for big, large, repeating sonic patterns played in the key of krautrock.
