Boston Takes To Streets In Defense of Abortion Rights

On June 24th, 2022 the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade by a 6-3 decision, ending the constitutional right to an abortion.

The political implication in principle is that the legal right to an abortion is turned over to the states, being no longer safeguarded at the federal level.

The practical consequence is that, immediately upon the ruling, millions of people lost access to abortions in their state. (Many states had laws already on the books, waiting, to make abortion illegal as soon as, if ever, Roe v. Wade was overturned.)

Residents of Boston, and residents around the country, took to the streets to express their outrage at the overturning of the 50-year old legal precedent, the constitutional right to abortion. One large protest, organized by the PSL, DSA, and other socialist organizations in the Boston area (banning abortion is class war – the rich will still be able to get abortions), started at Copley Sq. and marched to the State House.

More events are planned as advocates plan a response and long term strategy to protect abortion rights where they still remain and to regain what was lost. (One way to do this: codify Roe v. Wade).
