Helene “Teddy” MacNeal: Her Parents Wanted a Boy
Helene MacNeal has been something of a cipher in the 2022 race for Governor's Council District 4. The Republican candidate will need every tool in her toolkit to drum up name recognition before voters in Massachusetts decide on November 8th between her and her opponent, an incumbent whose tenure stretches back to 1993. But so far there’s been only whispers from her campaign when there needs to be shouts.
Whispers were all that were needed, though, to win an uncontested Republican primary.
The MacNeal campaign has broken its silence with two weeks left in the race to prove she does, in fact, exist. Her Ballotpedia entry now has a profile picture and a link to her Facebook.
MacNeal’s also turned up in the Twitter-sphere, dabbling on the platform back in 2018 to jump on the #ClearFlynnNow hype train, defending the reputation of the disgraced former general and darling of the far-right Michael Flynn.
And here is MacNeal trying to figure out how DMs and replies work. Most election observers rate the Electoral College as giving Republicans an edge, despite regularly losing the popular vote. But credit MacNeal for “rethinking” big.
The biggest takeaway is the low-key sadness around her nickname “Teddy.” As it happens, her parents wanted a boy and her father was named ‘Theodore.’ MacNeal recounts the day she was born on her latest Youtube clip: “I was ‘Teddy’ before I left the hospital.”
Our research department dug up a pair of MacNeal Youtube clips uploaded to the Quincy Access Television channel. The earlier clip dates back to August 26, runs 4:52, and has 330 views.
A later clip from Quincy Access Television was uploaded on October 21st, titled “November 2022 Messages to the Voters: Helene MacNeal.” She describes herself as a “blue-collar Reagan Republican” who “would have paid [the idle doctor who refused to work on holidays and presumably rushed the delivery on July 3rd -ed.] extra to have a July 4th birthday.”
Given the infrequency of her communiqués, this might be the last pitch you hear from her. Enjoy!
