Lieutenant Governor
The Lieutenant Governor is the second ranking officer of the executive branch and the first in line to succeed the governor. The office is popularly elected every four years.
The current officeholder is Karyn Polito (R), who assumed office in 2015.
Kim Driscoll (D) won the Democratic primary, beating out Eric Lesser by over 10 points and Tami Gouveia by over 20 points. She has been the mayor of Salem since 2005. Democratic gubernatorial candidate Maura Healey did not choose a running mate in the primary, but she has embraced Driscoll since her primary win.
Kate Campanale (R) was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, representing the 17th Worcester District, from 2015-2019.
Leah Cole Allen (R) won the Republican primary, beating out Kate Campanale by about 5 points. Cole Allen previous served as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, representing the 12th Essex District, from 2013-2015. She resigned to focus on her nursing career. She was the named running mate of gubernatorial candidate Geoff Diehl from the start of the primary.
