It was a sprinter’s delight for Dylan Groenewegen of Team BikeExchange in Stage 3 of the Tour de France. The Dutch fastman nosed out hopefuls for a photo finish win. The stage is the last true sprint stage in this year’s route until later in Week 2 of racing.

Stage 3 was a flat stage though there were category-4 climbs sprinkled throughout. For the second day in a row, Danish rider Magnus Cort Nielsen hoovered up all the King of the Mountains points, adding to his lead in the polka dot jersey. He’s enjoying a fine time in the spotlight of his home country, but there will be no extra hometown hero points once the race returns to France for Stage 4. EF-Easypost will surely hope Nielsen keeps his momentum as the team has been short of wins this season.

No great change in the GC battle as riders played it safe, shuttling their sprinters to the sprint finish. Two main groups in the peloton opened up a tiny gap, with the first team finishing at 4:11:33 and the second group finishing at 4:12:12. Wout van Aert (Jumbo Vismo) retains the yellow – a mighty consolation prize for taking second in the spring behind Groenewegen.
