Kendra Morris: “Fine Right Here”
A neo soul sparkler that wants to soundtrack the opening credits for your favorite season of The Wire. Shades of Gnarls Barkley and nitrous oxide. Kendra Morris locks in the groove with the tagline on repeat. Extra points for getting the production just right. This is the kind of music that begs for a seven or eight-piece backing band to soup up the tension and drama while the vocals vamp on top. With local club dates at edgy, if modest, venues like O’Brien’s Pub and 10 Forward (<3), we’re probably not getting the full-complement, soul squad. But you’ll have to see her live to find out.
